Based on the 1911 census it would appear that almost 17 per cent of the Blackham men
eligible to fight in WW1 were killed during that conflict. Their names are inscribed on
the lychgate and in the manuscript on the wall of the church.
To mark the centenary of the end of WW1 this November, it is proposed to purchase one
of the 6ft aluminium ‘There But Not There’ statues to honour their service.
